Launch of the Leeway Crowdfunding Appeal

16 April 2020

Due to the Coronavirus, we have unfortunately had to cancel all of our scheduled fundraising events that we had planned for the coming months.

As an alternative, we have launched a crowdfunding appeal to help us to raise money to support our vital services at a time where we are seeing an increased demand for services.

The Importance of Fundraising

Our fundraising activities enable us to sustain and enhance some of the vital services that we provide for those experiencing domestic abuse. We hope that the money raised from our crowdfunding appeal will help us to continue to provide the best possible support for those experiencing domestic abuse, whilst also meeting an increasing demand for services.

As we reported in our previous blog post, we have seen an increased demand for our services and expect this to continue over the coming weeks and months.

Here is a breakdown of how fundraising and donations help to support the work that we do:

  • £10 – Will provide an activity pack and a toy for a child coming in to one of our refuges
  • £20 – Will provide an essential starter pack for families in refuge, such as essential food and toiletries
  • £100 – Will enable us to operate our telephone advice and support helpline for 2 hours providing vital support
  • £400 - will provide a family in refuge with a much needed tablet and WiFi internet access, so that they can safely and securely access home schooling, communicate with friends and family during isolation and improve their mental well-being by being able to access the outside world whilst staying in the safety of the refuge
  • £1000 – Will enable 3 women to receive Outreach Support tailored to their needs

Mandy Proctor, Chief Executive of Leeway, said:

“It is a difficult period for a lot of charities, with many organisations relying on fundraising activities to support the work that they do and to provide vital services. The current situation means that charities are no longer able to hold fundraising activities, which then has an impact on the services, and the quality of service, that they are able to provide. We are hoping that the crowdfunding appeal will help us to meet the increasing demand for our services, ensuring that we are still able to offer high quality support to those experiencing domestic abuse.”

We’d like to say a big thank-you to everyone who is supporting us. We know that a lot of people are experiencing hardship and we continue to be awed by the fact that, even under these strained circumstances, people are still thinking of others less fortunate than themselves and helping in any way that they can.
