Get Involved: Sign Up For Our Skydive Fundraising Event

27 January 2016
Tandem skydivers

With January now almost behind us, we thought it was time to bring you details of our first fundraising event of 2016. If you see yourself as something of a daredevil or fancy enjoying the experience of a lifetime, come and join us for a tandem skydive on Sunday 20th March 2016! It costs just £50 to secure your place; though raise at least £300 in sponsorship and you will get your skydive for FREE!

The event is being hosted at Beccles Airfield and you will be paired with a highly experienced instructor for the jump. Having soared to a height of 13,000 feet (approximately 2 miles), you and your instructor will then leave the plane under a modern ‘square’ gliding parachute. You will fall at a speed of around 120mph, descending 8,000 feet in just 40 seconds. At this point, your instructor will open the parachute and glide you safely back to Earth.

In total you will spend around six minutes under the parachute, enjoying breath-taking views of the local area. You will also have an opportunity to learn the basics of steering and landing.

Skydiving Facts:

  • The highest ever skydive was completed by Felix Baumgartner in 2012. On that occasion he jumped from 135,890 feet (25.7 miles).
  • During that jump, Baumgartner also reached speeds of 843.6mph – becoming the first person to break the sound barrier without vehicular power.
  • The youngest person ever to complete a sky dive was four year old South African, Toni Stadler; the oldest being 100 year old, Fred Mack.
