Leeway Coronavirus Message

18 March 2020
Coronavirus cells close up

In light of the current Coronavirus situation, we would like to take this opportunity to reassure you that Leeway is taking a number of precautionary actions to ensure that we can continue offering the best service to all of our service users, whilst keeping our team safe.

We are following all guidance and advice issued by HM Government and Public Health England. All of our staff have been briefed on best practice as set by the World Health Organisation including appropriate hygiene, sanitising of equipment, and minimising any risk of infection. None of our team have been affected, and we continue to monitor the situation closely and seriously.

We have put measures in place for some staff to work from home, remotely, in order to limit the spread of the virus, following advice from the Government. Any scheduled meetings and training sessions due to take place have been cancelled and will be rescheduled at the next convenient opportunity.

A contingency plan is in place to cover all eventualities, should anyone working or residing at one of our refuges contract Coronavirus. As the number of cases has increased across the country, we have ensured that information posters are displayed in our refuges, as well as ensuring supplies of hand sanitiser and dried and tinned food.

Whilst the virus continues to spread across the country, it is with regret that we will not be able to receive any donations of items at this time, so as to reduce the possibility of accidental transmission of the virus from those dropping off items. We will keep supporters updated on this situation, as and when it changes.

Sadly, our fundraising events for April and May - including our Golf Day and Charity Football Match have been cancelled. Events from June onwards are still planned to go ahead, but this will be reviewed on a weekly basis though, taking into account the advice of the Government and Public Health.

We would like to thank supporters for their understanding at this time and we will continue to update supporters in the coming weeks.
